This section is for patient teaching materials that can help dermatologists in explaining procedures and other related basic information about dermatology and dermatopathology.
A dermatopathologist is a specialist in diagnosing skin biopsies under the microscope. To apply for certification, pathologists must complete clinical dermatology training while dermatologists must complete additional surgical pathology training. Upon completion, eligible candidates may take the board examinations given by both the American Boards of Dermatology and Pathology. Board certification in Dermatopathology qualifies the physician specialist as a designated expert in the diagnosis of skin diseases. They work closely with dermatologists providing consultative expertise in difficult skin lesions and biopsies.
Each of the links below go to a web page with information on the subject mentioned in the link. The physician can either print directly from the web page or can go to the bottom of each page where a Microsoft Word (tm) document is linked for downloading, if that is what the physician prefers. Either way, this information can be used to help inform patients about the care they receive.
